There is some excellent mountain biking in The Cheviot Hills and two popular cycling routes pass through Harbottle and The Star Inn's front door - The Pennine Cycleway (route 68) and The Sandstone Way (MTB route):

The shows are typically held on the second Saturday in October each year, just 1.5 miles from The Star Inn.
Stargazing
The Northumberland International Dark Sky Park is the largest Dark Sky Park area of protected night sky in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. It has the darkest skies in England making it a perfect location for stargazing.
There is an official Dark Sky Discovery Site in the National Park carpark in Alwinton, about 1.5 miles from The Star Inn.
