The Star Inn was built as a coaching inn over 200 years ago, and similarly to many other properties in the village, was built using sandstone from the ruins of nearby Harbottle Castle. The pub is steeped in history and would have once been used by drovers crossing the Anglo-Scottish border just a few miles away in The Cheviot Hills.

Today, the pub is popular with local residents, holiday makers, walkers and cyclists in an attractive village in Coquetdale within the Northumberland National Park and International Dark Sky Park. It has been recently refurbished by new owners, retaining much of the original character. There are guest en-suite bedrooms with their own patio gardens, a self-catering holiday cottage and a large barn and courtyard providing inside and outside seating at the rear of the pub.

The pub serves a good selection of beers, wines, hot drinks, cakes and ice-cream as well as a wood fired kitchen serving good food including traditional hand-stretched Italian pizza, pasta, fish, meat, breakfasts and more. There is a well stocked village shop and newsagents at the side of the pub, which is also a small Information Point for the Northumberland National Park.

The pub is family-owned, dog-friendly and welcomes walkers, cyclists, bikers and families in an area equally well placed for relaxing or exploring the great outdoors.
