New owners of The Star Inn in Harbottle

Phil and Karen Wilkinson have taken over The Star Inn

We took over The Star Inn on 1st August 2019 from Anne Dunn, who together with her late husband Robert, ran the pub for 46 years. We are now settling into Harbottle and would like to wish Anne the very best of wishes for her retirement, and to thank her for all of her help and support during the purchase process.

When we heard The Star was for sale, we were interested as we have a holiday cottage in Harbottle and have grown very fond of the village. We could see its potential in a beautiful area and wanted to do something special with it. As we looked into things in more detail, it became apparent it was not about us buying any old pub, it was about us buying this pub. It has been quite a journey taking nearly 18 months to get us to this point but we have finally made it here!

We have some exciting ideas for its refurbishment and our aim is to keep the pub open as the development work can be done in phases. We will also try to minimise the disruption to our neighbours! We need to find our feet and have a lot to learn but love the area and are very much looking forward to our next chapter living and working in Harbottle.

Thank you to everyone who has made us feel very welcome, and if you have not met us yet, do pop in and say hello! Take a look at our new website and follow us on social media to keep up to date with news and what’s on.

P.S. We will be closed for a few days when we move in, opening on the evening of Monday 5th August for the Quiz night in aid of the Holystone and Alwinton churches.
